About Erika

I am a visual artist who resides with my spouse in Fernandina Beach, Florida. I work primarily with acrylic and watercolor paints (and, less frequently, with oil paint). Before working as a full-time artist, I worked in clinical medicine as a PA, and I still maintain an active PA license and board certification. My formal art education took place at Duke University, where I double-majored, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and in visual arts.

I make my own acrylic paint (and sometimes watercolor paint) from pure pigments and binders, and the artwork I currently create is heavily influenced by the physical properties of the paint. While working, I allow the behavior of the paint to help dictate the direction of each painting, and to ultimately convey emotion through nature-inspired color and form.

A technical goal I have is for my art to stand the test of time. You can read more here about the specific materials and methods I employ to create high-quality long-lasting works of art.
